KIGALI, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The Association of African Development Finance Institutions on Tuesday agreed to form strategic alliances to create more capital and mobilize more resources aimed at funding key sectors of the economy.


The pledge was made during the ongoing African Development Bank (AfDB) 49th Annual Meetings in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.


The theme of the five-day meetings is "The next 50 years: The Africa we want." Speaking during the association's annual general assembly at the Kigali Serena meeting village, Professor Samuel Wangwe Cody Whitehair Jersey , a policy researcher in Tanzania said the best way to alleviate poverty while ensuring sustainable economic growth rates was to increase productivity levels and employment.


"The employment challenge in Africa today is the large number of self-employed working poor in the agricultural and non- agricultural sectors mainly in the informal sector," he said.


He said Development Finance Institutions needed to come up with innovative financial instruments, expand productive capacities through capital accumulation and formation of strategic alliances among them in order to address the challenges.


Alex Kanyankole, chief executive officer of the Development Bank of Rwanda (BRD), said they had discussed how they can improve on their capacities and in financing projects in infrastructure Leonard Floyd Jersey , green technologies, agricultural productivity and export trade sectors which are seen as the priority sectors in achieving Africa 's development goals.


He said BRD's challenge of capital raising and resource mobilization relied upon how it positioned itself to work with other development finance institutions to leverage on funds which are aimed at enabling sustainable development systems.


"In this way, we can be able to raise low-cost funds and do onward lending to the private sector," he explained.


He added that it allowed the private sector to also engage in infrastructure projects.

"We need to make members of the private sector to see the economics in having bankable projects," he said.


The development bankers concluded that they needed to fast- track infrastructure projects while ensuring access to finance is not a challenge.
